Working in the City of London, we both pass by St Mary Woolnoth church on our commute, so when looking for a spot to have our ceremony, this seemed like the perfect choice.

Following an enquiry about getting married in the church, we were told that we either had to be: regular church goers, associated to the parish, or have a family connection.

None of which applied. Or so we thought…whilst exploring a fast track into religion, frantically looking for a Plan B and seeking solutions from family, lo and behold it turns out that Dr and Mrs Cran, Cecilia’s parents, were in fact married in this very church a mere 44 years ago!

Reception (until 12am)

Merchant Taylors’ Hall
30 Threadneedle St
London EC2R 8JB

Merchant Taylors’ Hall is a short walk from both Bank tube (Exit 6) and the church.

We looked high and low in hope of the perfect venue and after months of false starts and unsuccessful searches, we finally found it.

The Merchant Taylors’ Hall is exactly what we wanted, a lovely building, with a beautiful private courtyard – we hope for sunshine on the day (but, as realistic Brits, are planning for every eventuality!).

The venue is steeped in history. The Merchant Taylors’ Company, one of the ‘Great Twelve’ livery companies, began life as an association of working tailors before receiving its first royal charter in 1327.

It has occupied the same site on Threadneedle Street since at least 1347 – and may have given the street its name. It has hosted royalty including James I and Alexander I of Russia. The hall hosted the first performance of God Save the King in 1607.

The couple

On a nondescript Saturday in February 2010, little did we know that our lives were set to change for ever. The setting, a house party in Dalston, East London. The situation, Cecilia and Aly were thrown together by an act of fate (well, an impromptu conga). Cue copious cups of house party punch, a few more congas and very randomly a game of backgammon – still at said house party, and here we are.

Call it what you will: Stars aligning? Love at first sight? A shared appreciation of congas and backgammon? Or perhaps a heady mix of the three. Needless to say, there is never a dull moment. We do hope you can join us to celebrate the next step of our lives, as we conga the way in to our future together!

Gifts / Charity Donations

Your presence on the day is more than enough. However, if you would like to give us a gift, we have two charities that are close to our hearts that we would welcome a donation to, or if you would prefer to donate to our honeymoon fund, that would be greatly appreciated

Cecilia is a bona fide animal lover and a lifelong supporter of all the marvellous work that the WWF does to promote and protect animals across the world. Any donation to support their work is much appreciated. Donate here >>

As some of you will know, Aly’s father passed away aged 48 after suffering a heart attack while playing sport. The Justin Edinburgh 3 Foundation aims to provide equipment and training so that others will have a better chance of survival.

We would hugely appreciate any donations to this cause. Donate here >>

We are thrilled about our wedding, and we hope you can attend! Because we have more than enough stuff, instead of a traditional wedding registry we have decided to ask guests to contribute to our chosen charities or our honeymoon fund.

Contributing to our fund will help pay for our honeymoon. We can’t wait to head off and will be sure to share plenty of pics!

We would love you to help us celebrate and hope you can make it!
